JEFFERSON CITY, MO — The Missouri Office of Administration proudly congratulates State Recycling Coordinator Cameron Gehlert on being named a 2026 NextGen Under 30 Missouri honoree. Gehlert was officially recognized last month in the Policy and Public Service category.

The NextGen Under 30 program shines a spotlight on young Missourians who make a significant impact through their careers, communities and passions. Its mission is to identify and honor young leaders at the state level, encouraging them to pursue their career and personal goals right here in Missouri.

"Cameron’s lifelong dedication to environmental stewardship and public service embodies the very best of Missouri's state team members," said OA Commissioner Kurt Schaefer. "His innovative spirit and tireless work keeping our state government sustainable makes him incredibly deserving of this recognition."

Gehlert has spent most of his life advocating for environmentalism. He first became aware of the importance of recycling at just eight years old. As a high school freshman, he created a recycling program as part of an FFA project. Gehlert later expanded that initiative into a town-wide recycling program for Linn, Missouri, named Osage Earth Care.

His early efforts earned him the prestigious President’s Environmental Youth Award in 2015. In 2018, Gehlert was also selected for the U.S. Senate Youth Program.

Gehlert graduated summa cum laude from Westminster College in 2022 with four majors and was named the “Male Senior of the Year.” He went on to earn a master’s degree in public administration from American University’s School of Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., in 2024.

Today, Gehlert channels his extensive background into his role with the Missouri State Recycling Program. As coordinator, he is responsible for managing the collection and disposal of all recyclable material waste produced by state government.
