FM&C PDASA Jake Fischer strengthens partnership with Syracuse University to modernize workforce
SYRACUSE, N.Y.— The Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller, Jake Fischer, recently visited Syracuse University to strengthen the Army’s longstanding academic partnership and explore opportunities to develop the next generation of financial management leaders.
The visit included engagements with Army ROTC cadets, students enrolled in the Defense Comptrollership Program (DCP), and senior faculty from the Whitman School of Management and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
During his visit with DCP students, Fischer emphasized the evolving role of financial management professionals as the Army accelerates its modernization efforts. As emerging technologies and super intelligence reduce the burden of routine financial transactions, the Army must increasingly leverage its workforce’s knowledge, analytical expertise, and judgment to inform senior leader decisions.
These discussions reinforced priorities outlined in the Army’s FY27 Financial Management Strategy and Transformation Plan, including the Fiscal Frontline financial dashboard, Army Audit Acceleration, and ongoing efforts to modernize how the Army allocates resources.
When meeting with Army ROTC cadets, Fischer discussed Army transformation, leadership, and the importance of financial accountability in supporting warfighter readiness.
A tour of Syracuse’s National Veterans Resource Center highlighted the university’s extensive support to service members, veterans, and transitioning Soldiers, including educational opportunities, professional certifications, and career transition programs.
Dialog with university leadership explored new opportunities for academic collaboration, particularly in artificial intelligence, strategic resource management, and executive communication. These efforts emphasized strengthening the workforce’s ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations.
The visit underscored the Army’s continued commitment to investing in its people and leveraging academic partnerships to build a more agile, analytically capable financial management workforce—one prepared to transform financial information into decision advantage for the warfighter.
