HESC Acting President Doris B. González Honored as a Baruch College Alumni Changemaker

Recognition honors González’s leadership and commitment to expanding educational opportunity for New Yorkers
ALBANY, N.Y. – The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) today announced that Acting President Doris B. González received the 2026 Baruch College Alumni Changemaker Award. The award recognizes Baruch College alumni whose leadership, innovation and excellence have made a meaningful impact on their organizations, industries, and communities.
As head of New York State’s student financial aid agency, Ms. González oversees the administration of more than $1.02 billion in grants, scholarships and loan forgiveness programs that support nearly 300,000 students each year. Governor Kathy Hochul has made college affordability and access a top priority, working to ensure that every New Yorker has the opportunity to pursue higher education without financial barriers standing in the way.
Ms. González has championed these shared goals at HESC by expanding access to financial aid, strengthening outreach initiatives, and delivering resources that help students and families across New York State reach their educational goals. With a commitment to modernizing the state's financial aid system, she is focused on building a foundation that will make it easier for students to apply for aid, break down long-standing barriers to opportunity, and advance the Governor's vision of a more affordable and accessible college experience for every New Yorker.
Earlier this year, Ms. González was recognized as a City & State Trailblazer in Higher Education and received El Diario's Mujeres Destacadas award. Her leadership has also earned HESC recognition as a 2026 Top Workplace by City & State New York and 2026 Top Workplace of the Capital Region by the Times Union, highlighting the agency’s commitment to innovation, employee engagement, and its positive impact across New York State.
Before joining HESC as the Executive Vice President in 2023, Ms. González held leadership positions across the public and private sectors, including Kyndryl Holdings, Inc., IBM Corporation, New York City Board of Education, NYS Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the NYC School Construction Authority. She also serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations and is a member of the New York Academy of Public Education, where she continues her longstanding commitment to expanding educational opportunity. As part of Governor Hochul's Latina Mentoring Initiative, González mentors middle school students in the Bronx.
